Hair Analysis Test To Determine the Underlying Causes Of Hair Loss

Hair analysis test is a new technique to find the root cause of all the hair and scalp problems. It is essential to visit a proper trichology clinic and address all the issues pertaining to hair loss before it becomes difficult to restore them. Even if you have opted to undergo hair transplant treatments like PRP therapy, mesotherapy, FUE treatment, etc, the medical expert will ask you to undergo the analysis test. This modern age has bought with itself pollution, unhealthy lifestyle and stressful living. All these problems show their effect on the health of your luscious locks. Hair problems often go undiagnosed as people resort to home remedies and attribute such problems to seasonal changes or old age. Problems like hair fall could possibly be an indication of an underlying deep-rooted problem like hormonal imbalance, nutrient deficiency, autoimmune disease etc. Hair analysis test can be done in a variety of ways. Some of the components are given below.

  1. Analysis Via Information Provided
Hair loss can be of various types. The trichologist analyzes the condition of the patient by asking a variety of questions related to the history of hair loss in the patient and his family. Androgenetic alopecia or pattern baldness can be inherited from the parents or the grandparents. The doctor will scrutinize and ask questions related to the duration of hair loss, since which age it started, features and hair loss pattern. The trichologist will also enquire about the usual up-do in which the tresses are kept to check for traction alopecia. Patchy scalp can also occur due to trichotillomania disorder, hence, the trichologist might ask about the psychological well-being related to stress and anxiety as well.

  2.   Clinical Test
The clinical tests can reveal a lot about any underlying cause of hair loss. Problems like deficiency of nutrients like vitamin D, vitamin B, zinc, iron, etc, hormonal changes, blood count, haemoglobin, and many other technical aspects which inhibit hair growth are revealed in these tests. Other than treating the baldness problem, the doctor will treat the root cause of the problem as well.

  3.  Pull Test
Sometimes, the patient gets too paranoid about baldness that even a small amount of hair fall stresses the person. Though some shedding is normal, the doctor might do a pull test to check for excessive shedding. The doctor pulls a small amount (about 60 strands) of hair, if more than 3 strands get pulled out, the test is considered to be positive for hair shedding.

Hair Loss Diagnostic Tools

  • Savin scale is a diagnosis tool to evaluate female pattern baldness. It is a widely used tool which was developed, tested, and put forth by Dr. Ronald Savin in the mid-1990s.  It helps in determining the degree of baldness and is useful for hair transplantation analysis. The savin scale consists of 9 illustrations for the pictorial representation of the level of baldness and density of hair.

  • Ronald Hamilton scale is used to assess male pattern baldness. Similar to Savin scale, Ronald Hamilton scale shows a chart of computer illustrations at the different extent of baldness and density in men. Both the scales are effective in categorizing baldness levels in men and women for expert examination.

It is important to treat shedding and scalp problems the correct way before it is too late to even restore them with hair transplant technology. Choose the best trichology clinic with experienced trichologists, dermatologists and technicians for best results.
