You look into the mirror on the day and notice that your eyes, while still beautiful, have a discoloration below them. Called dark circles, they give the look for age and worry and spoil one’s looks. Both men and women are affected by it. 

Dark circles are caused by

While I am suggesting some ways to treat dark circles in this article, remember that the first step to beauty is to calm your mind. Try yoga and meditation along with the remedies I have suggested here. Fortunately, there are many easy remedies to get rid of dark circles. I will describe here methods that you can do yourself and will help you overcome this problem with easily available ingredients. Don’t get worried: it’s a problem that can be easily solved.

1. Almond Oil

Almond oil is the skin’s best friend. It is easily available. Though it is expensive, it is very effective. It is rich in Vitamin E and you can use the oil by itself or you can add some Vitamin E oil with it and apply it on the skin around and under your eyes. Massage it on your dark circles and leave it overnight. Use it for two weeks and you will find that the dark circles are becoming lighter or will vanish. The best thing is to use almond oil on the eyelids and around the eyes when you go to bed and let it work overnight.

2. Rose Water

Rose Water is commonly used in India as skin toner and to cleanse the eyes. It is prescribed in ayurveda. It soothes the eyes and is very effective in reducing dark circles. Use cotton balls and soak them in rose water. Place these cotton balls on your eyelids, and leave them on for some time covering the skin around the eyes, say about 15 minutes. For best results, you will have to do this twice daily. You should be able to see the results in about two weeks.   

 3. Cucumber

Cucumber is good for eating as well as for the eyes. It is a common treatment at spas, and lightens the skin. It is soothing for the eyes as well. Cucumber is cut into slices and chilled in the refrigerator. These cool slices are placed on the eyes and left for some time. After about 15 minutes, they are removed and the eyes are washed. You can do this beauty treatment at home easily. You will be able to see the results after two weeks or so.

3. Potato juice

Potato juice is another easy remedy for dark circles. It contains bleaching agents that help in lightening the skin and reduce puffiness around the eyes. Prepare some potato juice by grating raw potatoes and squeezing them for the juice. Soak two cotton balls and in the juice extracted, and place these cotton balls on the eyes and skin around them. Leave them for about 15 minutes before washing the eyes. You will be able to see results in about two weeks.

 4. Tomatoes

Another remedy for dark circles is tomato. It too has bleaching properties and is known to lighten skin and make the skin soft. Extract some tomato juice by grinding tomatoes and squeezing, and add lemon juice to it. In this method too, soak the juice in cotton balls and place them on your eyes. After about 15 minutes remove them and wash your eyes. Drinking tomato juice with lemon juice also aids in the process.

5. Tea bags

Tea bags? Yes, tea bags can be used easily for treatment of dark circles. Take two used green tea bags, chill them in the refrigerator, and place them over your eyes. You will be surprised to see that even tea bags help in curing this condition.

6. Milk

Cold milk is also very helpful in treating dark circles. Milk is also known to soothe the skin and cleanse it. Soak two cotton balls in cold milk and put them on your eyes, covering them and the skin below it. Leave it for about 15 minutes and then wash it. You will be able to see the results in about two weeks.

7. Orange juice

Take some cold orange juice, preferably freshly crushed. Mix it with a few drops of glycerin and soak cotton balls in it. Use them on your eyes and the skin below them and leave them for about 15 minutes before washing. Your skin will start looking young and refreshed. 

8. Meditation

Since dark circles are a result of stress, it is important to change your lifestyle. Join yoga classes and learn meditation to reduce stress in your mind. This natural method will make you look and feel young and healthy, while also removing dark circles.

9. Mint 

Mint is a wonder plant. Its leaves have many medicinal qualities apart from being cool and refreshing. Take some mint leaves and make a paste of them. Apply it on the eyes and the skin around them. Leave it for about 15 minutes before washing. 

10. Turmeric

Turmeric also has many medicinal qualities. Mix some turmeric powder with a little buttermilk to form a paste. Apply this on your dark circles. Leave it for about 15 minutes before washing. 


These are simple remedies that will help you remove dark circles and rejuvenate your eyes. These methods are much better than using cosmetic products with chemicals as they work naturally. However, if you are unable to follow these methods, you can look for many products available in the market that will remove dark circles. Either way, you will get rid of dark circles in about 2-3 weeks, so be patient with the treatment. Use the remedies twice daily for faster benefit.
