5 Superfoods For Nourishing Scalp and Boosting Hair ReGrowth

Superfoods are nutrient-loaded and energy-packed food items which when introduced in the daily diet have proven to make changes in the individual’s well-being and life from within. Health is supreme, whether it is in the internal functioning of the body or health of the scalp, hair and skin.   • Indian Gooseberry

Gooseberry or ‘Amla’, as is popularly known is something that every grandmother swears by for healthy and shiny hair. Apart from being a traditional Indian Ayurvedic medicine with its anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-cancer properties, it is an excellent hair booster because of anti-oxidants like emblicanin, phyllantine,  quercetin, gallic acid and ellagic acid and presence of a ton of nutrients. Amla has 17 times more antioxidants than pomegranate, which itself is considered a very wholesome fruit. It is also a repository of Vitamin C (highest in plants), Amino Acids, Calcium, Phosphorus, Iron, Carotene, Vitamin B Complex, Proteins, etc. which help in providing, strength, shine and thickness along with reversing gray hair and stimulating hair regrowth.

  • Almonds

Almonds consist of all the nutrients essential for hair health and regrowth. It a storehouse of nutrients, particularly biotin, B-vitamins, omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, plenty of protein, magnesium and calcium. Almonds are a vegan’s best friend as it is the best non-dairy source of calcium. Spinach can be eaten in the form of salads, soup, vegetable or paranthas. Though all of them are delicious, lovely spinach paranthas, spinach corn, and palak paneer are our personal favourites.

Commonly known as methi seeds in Indian kitchens, it is a one-stop solution to all the hair problems ranging from hair fall to dandruff. It is rich in Nicotinic Acid, Lecithin, Potassium and Proteins which are wonderful for hair growth, hair health and reversing gray hair. You can incorporate fenugreek seeds in your diet by soaking a tablespoon in water at night and consuming it in the morning. Before looking forward to these powerhouse seeds, It is important to warn you that it doesn’t have the best of tastes. In fact, it is quite bitter so much so that you might have to gulp it down rather than eating it. Alternatively, you can grind the soaked seeds into the paste and apply it directly on the hair. Keep it for around 30 minutes on the scalp and then wash it off. Use a good quality shampoo with a pleasant fragrance thereafter. 

  • Eggs

It is now common to see a tagline-’ with egg proteins’ in hair care product commercials. It is because eggs are the ultimate source of Protein and Biotin, which improves keratin structure in the hair. Deficiency of Biotin and Protein are major triggers for hair loss and balding. Besides that, it also has Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Folate, Zinc, Vitamin B12, Iron, Omega 6 fatty acids and Selenium, all of which promote healthy, bouncy and shiny hair. You can either apply eggs directly on the hair or consume it regularly in your everyday diet.
